In all conditions

Our courses and workshops run all year-round, rain or shine, with only one exception—high winds! As John Ruskin once said, "Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather." Join us and embrace the outdoors in all its forms!

Professional Team

Our team of professional instructors possess the following qualifications: IOL Bushcraft Competency Certificate, NCFE Level 4 Bushcraft Instructor, National Navigation Award Scheme Tutor’s Award, Mountain Training Lowland Leaders, a certificate in Greenwood Working, and current First-Aid certification, with DBS checks in place.

Outdoor Expertise

Our instructors bring a wealth of experience, gained from outdoor adventures worldwide, from the Malaysian Jungle to the Australian Outback and New Zealand Bush. They’ve also studied with craftsmen from Norway, Sweden, Japan, and the UK, and look forward to sharing their knowledge with you.

About Explore the Great Outdoors

At Explore the Great Outdoors, our mission is to provide top-quality training courses and workshops. Whether you're looking to enhance your Bushcraft skills with one of our Institute of Outdoor Learning - accredited Bushcraft Training Courses, where you can go forward to earn a Bushcraft Competency Award or Certificate, or you're interested in learning a new craft through our woodland craft and green woodworking workshops like Pole Lathing, Spoon Carving, Rustic Stool Making, and Shrink Pot Making, we have something for everyone.

We also offer heritage craft courses where you can experience forgotten crafts and learn traditional green woodworking skills, whilst you make a Swallowtail Rake or a Cleft Gate Hurdle. Additionally, our Rural Craft Courses include hands-on projects such as Weaving Hedgerow Baskets and crafting Traditional Wreaths.

Located in the heart of Wiltshire, our courses and workshops are held at two venues: our woodland site near Warminster and our indoor craft studio near Marlborough.

Pete and Jacqui were fantastic hosts who gave as much help as required whether with design, ideas or building. So welcoming, would happily just sit and chat to them for the day. Really fulfilling course, great stress reliever and fantastic chair to show for it! Mark Morrison
Excellent course in a fabulous setting. Pete & Jaqui are just great, as were the other two students, so the banter was excellent as the group really gelled. Instruction and assistance from Pete and Jaqui as & when you needed it, but quite willing to let you get on with it and help each other. As a tradesman I found all the processes quite straight forward, however if you have not used saws etc. before then it could be a little challenging. The pole lathe was something else....a fab piece of kit that will test the stamina of your leg lol. Using the shavehorse to make a shavehorse was also a great new experience, and I have a really nice example to bring home. Thank you Jaqui & Pete. A truly fabulous couple of days."Rob Johnson
Hello Both, What a wonderful day you gave us. The teaching of the subject was exemplary and very patiently and kindly given. I must admit to looking forward to the visit with some trepidation but was soon put at ease by the welcome and greeting you gave us. I learnt an awful lot and picked up some very useful tips that I assure you I will pass on to Adam  and use myself. The hosting was a joy with coffee, very tasty soup with fresh bread in wonderful surroundings and excellent conversation, what a team you make you can be very proud of your achievements in running a very professional business. Don’t forget to keep a diary there is a book to be written in the future.
