Scandinavian Craft Weekend
Join us in our woodland setting for a weekend of traditional Scandinavian crafts.
During your time spent with us you will:
· Make a woven birch-bark basket
· Carve a Dala Horse
· Carve a Shrink Pot
· Make a traditional butter knife
On this course you will have the opportunity to make a woven birch-bark basket using traditional Scandinavian weaving techniques.
Carve a Dala horse; the Dala Horse is a traditional symbol of Sweden. These horses were carved by men working in the forests during long winter evenings and brought back to the village for the children to play with. This is how the little wooden horse from Dalarna became a treasured object. These simple wooden horses were later painted in bright colours with floral patterns.
You will also carve a shrink pot from green wood. These pots were traditionally used for storing dry goods in the kitchen.
If we have time you’ll get the chance to make a traditional butter knife.
You will be able to camp on site and we will provide all the meals with some traditional Scandinavian dishes.
Minimum age 18, younger students can attend but this is subject to age and ability. Please contact us to discuss.
The course will run from 10am Saturday to 4pm Sunday
The course fee is £175 per head.
