Here’s another Award-Winning Course from Explore the Great Outdoors, Winners of the Best Woodland Courses 2019.
Discover the magic of shrink pots.
Shrink pots are often referred to as shrink boxes and are believed to have originated from Scandinavia. These pots are called Krympburk in Sweden, they were traditionally used for storing dry goods.
The pots are made from freshly felled green wood. A section from a branch or trunk is taken depending on the size of pot you want or need. This log is then drilled through, before hollowing out from each end with a knife. Once the desired wall thickness (approx 8mm) is achieved, a groove is carved near the bottom edge of one end. Next you take a dry piece of wood to make a base, this piece is shaped and fitted into the groove and then the magic begins. Hey presto … as the pot dries it shrinks around the base holding it firmly in position.
Minimum age is 18, younger students are allowed by prior arrangement please call us to discuss.
The course runs from 9.30am to 4pm with a half hour break for lunch.
